Absolute Poker Scandal Kahnawake Report

Jan 12, 2008
Author: Steve Vaughan

The audit by Gaming Associates is complete and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission has released its report regarding the Absolute Poker cheating scandal that occurred last summer.

The report itself does not go into any detail and if you have been following the story unfold across the internet, you will not see anything new reported but it will confirm all that you have read.

The report starts by summarizing all that had occurred. On August 14th and going for approximately 6 weeks, certain player accounts were used to cheat other players in live games at Absolute Poker using software that enabled the cheaters to view the hole cards of their opponents.  The accounts according to the report were Graycat, Payup, Steamroller, Potripper, XXCashmoneyXX aka SupercardM55, Doubledrag and RonfalcoXXB aka Romnaldo.

The Commission stated that AP cooperated "to their satisfaction" but also stated the "person(s) with Absolute Poker's operations" deleted key gaming logs that prolonged the investigation. It was also stated that principle ownership and the AP corporate entity where not involved or did they benefit from the breach in security.

The Commission did confirm that the powers that be at Absolute Poker did not contact Kahnawake within 24 hours of discovering the incident as required by licensing regulations.

The Commission did say they where satisfied with the way AP reimbursed its players and stated that the software has been fixed and that it should not occur again.

As far as the penalty, AP will have to be subjected to random audits by the Commission two years to be paid for by Absolute Poker and must implement a "continuous compliance program and remedial measures as directed by the Commission."

The Commission is also requiring a security deposit of an unspecified amount that will be held for two years to offset costs of any further breaches of Kahnawake law.

Last but not least Absolute Poker will have to pay a fine of $500,000 that is payable in 60 days.
