Annie Duke Will be Fashionably Late for the WSOP
Top poker pro Annie Duke is having to miss out on the first week of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas because of a broken pelvis she suffered in a running accident. According to her blog on her sits, www.annieduke.com she suffered a triple pelvic fracture while she was out jogging. S
She went to say that she didn't immediately seek medical help and that when she did the x-rays didn't reveal the full extent of her injuries. The full extent of her injuries weren't shown until she had a MRI exam and now she will be missing the opening days of the WSOP, she wrote.
Annie Duke said in her blog, “I have been depressed because I haven’t really been able to run. About two months ago, I was doing a 16-mile run and I developed a pretty sharp pain in my pelvic floor around mile 11. Of course, because I am an idiot, I kept running till mile 16. Well, that night I had a lot of trouble walking. In fact,I really couldn’t walk. So I rested it for a week and then went out to run again and around mile 3 I had to stop and limp home".
“By that night I could not put any weight on my right leg. But did I go to the doctor? Oh, no! Of course not. So this went on for the last two months. This cycle of rest it and then try to run. And then last week I went out and at .5 miles I just said this is stupid. need to go see a sports medicine doctor. Which I did. And I have fractured pelvic bone! Okay, so that explains it."
Later on in her blog she wrote, “Holy crap! just got the results back from the MRI I had on Monday and I fractured my damn pelvis in three places, not just one! One is a true fracture and the other two are stress fractures. I am one stupid chick running on a pelvis fractured in three places. Man oh man. So now it is just rest…I am showing up to the WSOP a week late…”
