Antigua To Meet With U.S. Politicians

Antigua plans to use the approaching Caribbean business conference that will be attended by the United States legislators.  This conference is planned as a way to show their case on discriminatory online gambling legislation in the United States.

Officials of Antigua and politicians are planning to use this gathering of 10 members of the U.S. Congress as a chance to raise their tiny nation's long-running trade battle going on with the U.S. over Internet gambling.

The United States has been said to have devastated the gambling industry of Antigua by effectively banning Americans from using the Internet to make online bets.

The ban made last year by the U.S. Congress that ultimately barred banks and credit card companies from being able to process payments from gambling, cost Antigua's market with the United States a staggering amount of money, and they are seeking compensation from the United States for this loss.

Antigua plans to prove to the U.S. legislators that "...we do have the capacity to adequately regulate these gaming operations," Cort told The Associated Press.

They will also be inviting the lawmakers to take a tour of the Caribbean nation's Financial Services Regulatory Commission along with some Internet gaming companies.
