Card Players Online Player of Year is Tight Race

Dec 28, 2007
Author: Steve Vaughan
It is a tight race for the 2007 Card Player Online Player of the Year (OPOY) and the latest tournament, the $200 rebuy on PokerStars December 23rd, sent Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron, who won and received 360 OPOY points, past Matt "ch0ppy" Kay and into first place.

There are only three more days to be able to earn points and the top two are separated by only 26 points. In order to get OPOY points the overall prize pool must reached $100,000 and Baron might have been able to put the title out of reach with his win Wednesday in the $100 rebuy tournament at PokerStars but the prize pool fell just short at $99,400.

Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi is currently third with 6,676 and mathematically not eliminated from taking the overall title but it would take some very good finishes and winning a major tournament.

Both Kay and Baron started their Online Player of the Year quest in style with Kay winning the PokerStars Sunday Million January 7th and earning $201,000 and Baron ending the month with the same win earning him $255,000.
