Charity Poker Tournament for Cancer
Hey, to all you poker enthusiasts, the Santa Clarita Vally Jaycees is going to host the 4th anual Texas Hold'em Charity Poker Tournament on Saturday, on July 26th, it's gonna be at the City of Santa Clarita's Actvities Center. It's only $125 per person, players of all ages will get a chance to enjoy delicious food and drinks while getting to enjoy the fun of the night of poker. Budweiser and the Loose Goose will be giving out adult beverages. The setting will be played in a true poker style, with the pro dealers, tables and tournament directors. The entrace fees will benefit two worthy causes- the Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund and the Gilda Radner Familial Ovarian Cancer Registry.
This year's event has expanded so there will definatley be more door prizes for up to 120 players. And the Top Ten awards are a 42-inch plasma High Defintion Television, Disneyland Park Hopper Tickets, IPods and of course others.
This tournament was founded by Missy Blair and Mandy Drake, in memory of their mother Debbie Templeton, who had lost the fight against ovarian cancer in December of ' 03. Ryan Drake, Mandy's husband, will be taking the helm at this year's Poker Tournament. ''Last year's event was our most successful to date. With over 100 players it was also our largest. The City's Actvities Center provides a great venue for the event and the table for the pro's, tournmen directors and dealers really adds to the poker atmosphere. We hope to top lest year by raising over $25,000 for these worthy charities, all while having a great time.'' said Ryan. Funds raised will benifit the Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund and Glida Radner Familial Ovarian Cancer Registry.
The Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund (BMCF) assists patients ages 18-40 as they under go the cancer treatment. It definately provides service to meet the daily needs not covered by insurance. Grants include co-payments, rent and mortage transportation, car insurance, repairs and groceries. The BMCF was founded in ' 01 and since then helped has helped 175 recipients, and providing over $150,000 in services. When Brenda had lost her battle with cancer in February of ' 04, but her vision to help others continues.
So definately remember to mark your calender for July 26th - It's definately something you wouldn't want to miss. The city of Santa Clarita Actvities center is located on 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway. Dinner Registration will begin at % p.m. and play will begin promtly at 6:15 p.m.
