Charles Nesson will be speaking today at The Arthur Seldom Room in London at a seminar sponsored by the Institute of Economic Affairs. Nesson is a Professor at Harvard Law School and will be speaking on the implications for free trade and Internet freedom of the US ban on online gambling.

Nesson has been teaching at Harvard for more than three decades and was crucial in founding the Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society (GPSTS). The Seminar is titled "The Bush Administration's Criminalization of Online Gaming and the Implication for Global Free Trade" and will begin at 6:30 pm. Nesson will be joined by Dr. Sallie James and Lode Van Den Hende who will also speak during the Seminar. The chairman of the Seminar will be John Blundell, the Director General and Ralph Harris Fellow of the IEA.

During the Seminar, speakers will address the implications for the global trade system if an affirmative finding for Europe is produced by the February deadline. The complaint filed by the Remote Gambling Association in December of last year with the European Commission against the United States will also be discussed.

"The conflict between the U.S. government and the online community over online poker and other forms of betting will not go away. There is growing concern about its impact on global trade, domestic U.S. law, and Internet freedom and regulation." As said by Professor Nesson.
