Egypt's First Major Tournament Success

Feb 17, 2008

Middle East poker is continuing to grow, as evidenced by the recent win of Swedish native Fredric Ollsen in Egypt's first major poker tournament. This was a no limit hold'em tournament at Sharm El Sheikh's Sinai Grand Casino in Egypt.  Ollsen's victory in the €500 main event that capped a series of events that ran from January 28th to February 3rd.

After the first day 30 players had been eliminated with the survivors returning on day two to set the lineup for final table.  There were also four other smaller tournaments in the event that ranged from €100 to €200 each that preceded the two day tournament that Ollsen, who now lives in Finland took home.

There were 53 entrants at the Sharm El Sheikh, a popular Red Seat tourist destination, to compete in was announced as €7,000 in first place money. All of the 53 players were from other countries because Egyptian law only allows citizens of other countries to gamble in Egyptian Casinos, (Silly of them if you ask me).
