European Poker Capital Award Goes to Dublin
Dublin has won the European Poker Capital 2009 award for the second year in a row just barely beating out London, according to Bluff Europe, the popular poker magazine. The online magazine praised the enthusiasm of the citizens of Dublin for their love of the game as well as the variety of card clubs in the city.
London was the runner up in the award and they were praised as well for their tournaments and venues as well as the growth of pub poker in the city over the past few years. Other cities in the running for the award were Tallinn, Galway and Vienna.
“It’ll always be a close run thing between Dublin and London for top spot but we just had to give it to the Irish again this year simply because we’re always overwhelmed by the enthusiasm we encounter for the game whenever we visit,” said Philip Conneller, Editor for Bluff Europe.
“Dubliners are mad for it and in Ireland poker seems so much more of a passion than elsewhere. Even the table banter is just, well, better.”
