Jeffery Pollack Pokes Fun at Joan Rivers
Jeffery Pollack, the commissioner of the WSOP, unexpectedly brought Joan Rivers into poker talk this week during a news conference. Rivers recently went on a tirade against Annie Duke on the television show The Celebrity Apprentice.
Pollack was asked during the conference if he thought a woman would eventually win the WSOP Main Event. His response was “We would love to see a woman win the main event… unless that woman happens to be Joan Rivers.”
Rivers was very cruel to Duke on a recent episode called her a “Nazi” and that she is “a poker player” and that is “beyond white trash”. Rivers went after Duke with words when her daughter was eliminated from the show.
Duke responded to Rivers by saying that poker players are “the most awesome people in the world.” Pollack has also stated that Duke’s presence on the television show is a ‘quantum leap’ for poker as it is placing the game in the mainstream, for all the public to see.
Pollack stated: “Annie is representing poker players beautifully. I think she’s playing the game masterfully. We think the net effect is that it’s going to be very good for poker and for the World Series of Poker.”
