Each online poker tournament will aware prizes and points for themselves and their chosen location. There will be a total of 5 individual tournaments that will make up the Pub Poker Championship on the Ladbrokes website. There will only be 20 finalists who advance to a live grand finale.
The pub that has the most accrued points at the end of the championship will be awarded a trophy and VIP Celebrity tournament hosted in their pub. In addition, the licensee or owner of the winning pub will receive a poker cruise package through the Carribean.
Every pub representative who recruits a minimum number of players to represent their pub in the championship, will receive a free pub poker pack complete with tables, chips, cards and point of sale kits, along with a how to guide on running law compliant pub poker nights.
"Pub Poker is a great opportunity for pubs to capitalize on the poker boom," said Richard Packman of Ladbrokes Poker. "We understand the complexities of the new law and want to help pubs run compliant pub poker nights so they can enjoy a friendly game of poker as much as we do."
The Pub Poker Championship is being launched at the same time new legislation (2005 Gaming Act) takes effect that will increase the presence of poker in pubs. Effective September 1, local pubs will be permitted to host poker and other equal-chance games without a license, assuming they meet the necessary guidelines. Clearly stated in the law the maximum amount staked by a person on any game of chance, with or with out skill, is not above $10 with the maximum total staked on games of poker not exceeding $200 a day.
