The Asian Pacific Poker Tour Macau proved to be an enormous success this past weekend, being the first poker tournament ever to be held in the republic of China.

Many have thought the Asian market would do well for online casino operators, after the changes with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) first came about. This seems to be proving true so far.

The main event for the Asian Pacific Poker Tour Macau has just ended, having 352 entries in the $2,500 freeze out. Dinh Le taking the first prize win of $222,640.

Some of the biggest names in the poker world, such as John, Juanda, Isabelle Mercier, Barry Greenstein, Scotty Nguyen, Kirk Morrison, Lee Nelson and Jeff Lisandro are all playing in a special $15,000 high rollers event that is taking place right now in Macau, having a $368,640 first prize.

It was also released last week that Playtech, owner of the iPoker network, plan to expand in the Asian market, with a three year deal that will provide online poker and other player-to-player games to the Asian market.

The World Poker Store, which runs the Bar Poker Leagues, also have shown interest in expanding into the gaming market to be found in Asia.
