Michael Phelps & Doyles Room, a Winning Combination
Ever since the 2008 Beijing Olympics began, talk has been swirling about Michael Phelps and poker. The super athlete won eight gold medals and broke several world records during the Beijing Olympics and stated during his time away from swimming he enjoyed poker. It was with that statement that the invitations began from several poker tours, inviting Phelps to come, play and stay at the various tournaments.
This past weekend, news broke that Phelps had hooked up with Doyle and Todd Brunson. Phelps was staying at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and reached out to the legend himself: “What a great feeling it must be to be twenty three years old and on top of the world. What a nice kid! He had a bunch of his friends from home with him and they were the guests of the Palms Hotel and Casino. I got a call that he was an avid poker fan and wanted to meet me, Todd and Hoyt Corkins. Jennifer Harmon and her husband Marco were also there.”
"Phelps and some of his friends wanted books so I took Super System 1 and 2 to them and they asked all kinds of poker questions. Michael said all he wanted to do in life, was to eat, swim and play poker. We went up to his suite to hang out for a while. His suite had a basketball court, swimming pool, workout room, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. It must have been 15-20 thousand square feet, the nicest one I've ever seen."
It wasn’t just poker that Doyle would talk to Michael Phelps about. Doyle also told Phelps about a strip club that he should go to and being the young man that he is, Michael obliged. Photos were taken of Phelps at the Playboy Club, where he was getting serious attention from one of the girls.
