Richard Read, of Plymouth, Connecticut, has been sentenced to 50 years behind bars for the murder of Brian Raboin. Read stated that he was playing online poker the night of the murder, and did not go out with his friend Brian that night.

The incident took place over two years ago, but it was not until yesterday that Read was found guilty of the crime. After a two-day probable cause hearing, Superior Court Judge Carl J. Schuman sentenced Richard Read to 50 years in prison, stating that murdering a friend for nothing was simply a cruel and cowardly act.

Raboin, at 39 years of age, was found dead on Minor Street, about 1 mile from his home in Bristol, Connecticut. Around midnight on the night of October 31, 2005, his lifeless body was discovered with 4 four gunshot wounds.

When questioned by investigators, Richard Read claimed he did not go out with his friend Brian that night. He was playing an online poker game of Texas Hold'em when the murder occurred.

According to testimony from New Britain police Sgt. James Wardwell, Read made himself a suspect during questioning by revealing information that had not been released to the public. This piqued Wardwell's interest greatly, and eventually led to the arrest and conviction of Richard Read.
