Nautica Charity Poker Moving Inside
Weekend poker festivals will no longer have to be held just in the Spring and Summer. They are going to be moving in doors so that poker can be dealt all year long. For the past three years the Nautica charity poker events were held outside in large tents.
Now they are moving into their new poker parlor that is a converted nightclub in the Powerhouse. There were only 20 tournaments a year and now they will be hosting 26 tournaments. In three years the events have raised $1.75 million dollars. Groups have to provide volunteers to run the operation but they can expect a take from the four day event of about $30,000 dollars.
The groups are trying to raise money for sports teams, medical care, art events and a variety of other causes and will be hosting their first tournaments this year.
There was another reason for the indoor poker room as that year round poker play can let the community get comfortable with the idea of gambling. This is happening at the same time as Governor Strickland is trying to launch Lottery run Keno and there is also another casino measure that will be on the November ballot.
