Phil Hellmuth Part of New UltimateBet Poker Mix-up
UltimateBet is part of yet another online poker scandal that came to light this past weekend on the online poker forum 2+2. Details from a hand between Phil Hellmuth and “Doubleballer” are being discussed after it appeared that Hellmuth won the almost $6,000 even though he mucked his cards.
Early Saturday morning Hellmuth was playing against online player “Doubleballer”. When the discussed hand began Hellmuth held $4,495 in chips while “Doubleballer” held $7,495 in chips. After preflop betting was over the pot had grown to $5,599. On the river card “Doubleballer” held Kd-Qh which was a hand of three kings and Hellmuth mucked his hand.
The pot was given to Hellmuth and “Doubleballer” was knocked out due to internet issues. When the two reconnected they discussed the hand and Hellmuth told him that he had won the pot with three kings. When play resumed Hellmuth had just over $7,000 in chips and “Doubleballer” had almost $5,000, so Hellmuth had received the winning pot even though he had lost.
“Doubleballer” took to the message boards and discussed what happened. Many believe that the glitch may be a result of the new CEREUS poker network software. The COO of Absolute and UltimateBet owner Tokwire Enterprises, Paul Leggett commented on his blog: “Earlier today we learned about a poker hand where our system paid out the losing player instead of the correct winning hand. We are investigating this software malfunction as our absolute top priority. This is the first incident of this kind we have encountered.”
It was later uncovered that Hellmuth and “Doubleballer” had exchanged words and the site was planning on crediting “Doubleballer” with half the value of the pot. No information has been released by the poker room so only time will tell what the real truth is.
