Poker Tour Owner Targeted with Snakes

Aug 21, 2007
Author: Steve Vaughan
Two men living in Colorado were both charged with the conspiracy to commit murder, when they allegedly planned to kill Mathew Sowash. The two planned to place rattlesnakes into box, force Sowash to place his feet into the box, where he would be bitten and then ultimately killed by the rattlesnakes, the box was to be designed so that Sowash would be unable to remove his feet from it once they were inside.

The Amateur Poker Tour is a small business located in Denver that hosts Texas Holdem Poker games in local area bars. After he received a series of threatening emails, Sowash made contact with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Both Herbert Beck and Christopher Steelman were arrested. According to affidavits, the snakes in a box plan wasn't the only plan for revenge the two would be criminals had surmised. There was another, shall we say back up plan that included kidnapping Sowash's children and holding them for ransom as leverage in receiving payment on a rather large debt the two claim they are owed by Sowash.

The charges at this time are conspiracy to commit murder, and conspiracy to kidnap, and extortion, bail is set at $500,000.
