Poker in the Sky
Far to often poker players have been accustomed to playing the game in stuffy, stale basements, or in the environment provided by cheap bars. The ‘Poker in the Sky' event was by far above that, both logistically and environment created. The building - standing 103 meters high and overlooking the Rhine River - is normally reserved for elite corporate events and parties. Players enjoyed the exotic penthouse view while they competed in tournament play, while the organizers hoped to break a world single day attendance record. GX and PKR.com showcased the benefits of a live amateur poker tournament. Many poker players who thrived because of their efforts played exceptionally in this game.
The target number of players was 1000 or more, although the final numbers are not yet available, that was easily reached. Some of the amazing prizes awarded included a luxury trip to Mallorca, and Apple Mac Book Pro., and LCD flat screen TV, and a Playstation 3. There were many other prizes, to many to list, also given away, however these were the highlights.
This Guinness Book of Records endeavor was held on Sunday, July 22nd 2007, and featured a unique structure. Starting at 10 am the event ran until 8pm with players entered tournaments to qualify for the top 200 spots, for the Main Event. The Main Event began immediately after, and ended with the first ever Poker In The Sky Champion.
Anticipation builds as the final numbers and winners are yet to be released.
