Jonathan Duhamel has recovered some of the cash that was stolen from him during a home invasion, though some of the cash and other items stolen have yet to be found.
According to Montreal police, an anonymous tip was received telling officers where they could find a significant amount of Duhamel’s stolen cash. The money was then recovered in a Longueuil mailbox on January 6.
In a padded envelope, officers found a variety of different currencies, including Canadian and American dollars, Euros, and pounds sterling. The total of the cash came to around $80,000, or about half of the $160,000 that Duhamel had reported losing during the robbery.
The home invasion occurred on December 31. Two men entered his condo after claiming to be delivering a package, then restrained and beat Duhamel before leaving with $160,000 in cash, the gold bracelet he received for winning the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event, and a Rolex watch worth approximately $10,000. While the watch has been recovered, Duhamel has yet to recover his WSOP bracelet.
While Duhamel was sent to the hospital after the incident, he suffered no major injuries.
Police believe that the home invasion was masterminded by Duhamel’s ex-girlfriend Bianca Rojas-Latraverse, and that three other men were also involved. All four suspects have been arrested and charged with counts related to the home invasion, with three of the four having been denied bail.
Duhamel is best known in the poker world for becoming the first Canadian player to win the WSOP Main Event. In 2010, Duhamel accomplished this feat and won over $8.9 million along with the traditional gold bracelet.
