South African Poker Open

Last year the world had only heard about the South African Poker Open. This year is different because South Africa has their Poker Champion, Raymond Rahme. This South African father of 6, business man, placed 3rd in the 2007 World Series of Poker. As he moved in on the highest tournament cash he has achieved, he has also brought the spot light of poker to the previously little known South African Poker Open. His celebrity has brought further encouragement to the rising popularity of the game in South Africa.

The event will be held at the Montecasino in Gauteng, South Africa, from February 5th - 11th, 2008.

Feb. 5 - R3,500 ($494) No-limit hold'em
Feb. 6 - R3,500 ($494) No-limit Omaha high
Feb. 7 - R1,500 ($211) Last-chance supersatellite for main event
Feb. 8 - R25,000 ($3,527) South African Poker Open main event

The event also holds one unique option for the players. A complete tournament packages that cost only $6,,000. The package includes entry into all 3 live events, seven nights at the Montecasino, a welcoming cocktail evening and closing dinner gala, air travel, and all meals during the tournament week. The first South African Poker Open was hosted by Kenna James and Robert Williamson III. The entire field of 105 players for the main event was dominated by Jaime Vilela, a US poker player. It is anticipated that Jaime Vilela will return to defend his title as the first champion of the South African Poker Open, and with Raymond Rahme across the felt, the game will be a challenge.
