Taking Texas Holdem Poker to the Extreme

High stakes Texas Holdem has a whole new meaning in Australia. Sitting on a platform in high winds, 90m above Sydney Harbour's North Head, six poker players took the game to extreme in the fourth Extreme Poker event tournament.

They have played at 30,000 feet, underwater and in Arctic conditions all for the right to make to the Extreme Poker Final at St Kitts in the Caribbean, which will be played underwater as well as an invitation to a more conventional poker tournament.

Not only did they have to contend with high winds but getting knocked out of this tournament meant you left on the "express elevator", a harness a rope and a drop to the rocks below.

Hugo Asenjo held his nerve and one the event though it wasn't easy, "The wind was so strong we thought the game was going to be called off," he said. Then added after the victory, "It was really hard to try and concentrate on the game when the entire time you're just thinking, don't look down."

When asked about the final taking place on the sea floor in the Caribbean, "I must admit I'm a bit concerned about that, I can't say I'm much of a scuba diver."
The founder of Extreme Poker couldn't be more pleased, "We're definitely coming back next year. We just need to find the next challenge," Peter Marcus said.
