WSOP Brand Could Be Up for Sale

Speculation has been rising that the World Series of Poker Brand may be going up for sale very soon. Harrah’s Entertainment is having problems with their liquidity and they may have to sell a few items to remain afloat and avoid bankruptcy. The WSOP is a large asset owned by Harrah’s and many speculate that it could be up for sale very soon.

It is expected that online casino operators will be among the high bidders if the rights to the WSOP are auctioned off. Harrah’s has never ran an online tournament since they acquired the brand from Binions but many believe that if an online casino owned the rights they could make a killing off of tournaments that use the WSOP brand.

Harrah’s has stated that the UIGEA has left them unable to create their own online poker site and with the current financial situation of the company they may be forced to sell the brand. Harrah’s reported a loss of $4 billion last quarter and selling the WSOP brand would allow them to keep their land casinos.
