The California Poker Players Conference took place last weekend and was attended by many people. They were there to hear from several different speakers and learn from some of the best professionals. The highlight of the weekend was when the commissioner of the World Series of Poker Jeffery Pollack spoke. He commented on the upcoming 2008 WSOP.

The WSOP will start on May 30th of 2008 and the final schedule of events would be announced in December or January. Pollack announced that the 'poker tent' would not be back so players would be always playing in the Rio. He also stated that the schedule would be no more than 55 events and there will be services available for players.

At last year's event there were 55 events played and they were very strenuous for the professionals. Out of the 55 events 54 of the tournaments took place over 33 days. Many poker players hope that the series will go back to the old ways and minimalize the events played and also open up the play to more than just Texas Hold'em. Many would like to see H.O.R.S.E. and Seven-Card Stud at the series. We will see come this winter whether or not the series will change for the better or remain the same.
