North Carolina Casino Affected by Virus

Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Hotel in North Carolina has been affected by an outbreak of a virus. The virus has been so contagious that almost two hundred and fifty people have been affected. Because of this the casino has decided to clean their gaming machines every two hours.

The virus is a norovirus and it could have been transmitted via contaminated food or water or by person to person contact. The virus probably was transferred via many of the gaming machines. Cleaning the gaming machines every couple of hours should keep the virus from spreading to more people.

Those on the staff who have been affected have been asked to stay home and those who caught the illness have experienced flu-like symptoms. Health officials have confirmed that is it safe to now return to the casino. The casino has just over 7,000 visitors each day so the two hundred and fifty people affected is a small amount compared to how many visit each day.
