Plans For Manchester's Casino On Hold

Feb 14, 2008

Officials in Manchester have announced that they are going to legally challenge the governments decision to scrap the previously planned supercasino if and when the decision becomes final.

The supercasino project was originally awarded to Manchester by Prime Minister Tony Blair but two weeks later when Gordon Brown came into office he put a halt on the plans for the project.

The supercasino if built would create an estimated 3,000 jobs in Manchester area.  Officials say that they haven't received confirmation of the decision to cancel the supercasino, only confirmations of the plans to proceed with 16 other smaller regional casinos that will be located throughout the UK.

The Department of Culture, Media and Support (DCMS) has confirmed that as of yet there isn't a confirmation in regard to the supercasino project.  Prime Minister Gordon Brown is planning to have his land gambling policy finalized later this month.
