Svenka Spel Disregards EU Probe
However, Svenka Spel's luck in the world of online gaming seems to be rubbing off as their success has brought the European Commission to probe into their operations after receiving complaints that the company has been disregarding the European Union's law that prohibits blocking of goods and services between member countries.
The government of Sweden admits to the monopoly but defends their decision by stating that the gambling monopoly held by Svenka Spel are regulated by fair laws that seek to minimize or avoid crime completely and also protect the welfare of the Swedish gamblers.
The European Commission is now set to decide on the case. Svenska Spel, its players, as well as gambling firms from other EU countries now await the decision. The case may be moved to the European Court of Justice should the European Commission reject the Swedish government's arguments.
