South Africa is now the latest in the long line of countries to decide how they will handle online gambling, and to answer this they have approved the National Gambling Amendment Bill. This bill, which passed their Parliament, was written to open the gambling market making it legal and regulated. Passing this bill means that any online gambling operators will be required to obtain a license and it will restrict where the location of the operators server is located; meaning that their server must also be I South Africa.

This bill has not made it into law yet; it must also be passed by the National Council of Provinces before it can become a law and then the president must also sign.

The new bill is not without opposition and questions, one person who opposes this bill is Ben Turok, who stated that when you have an evil in society you don't encourage it you prohibit the evil. In other statements he said he feels whether it is online gambling or land based it should be eliminated.

A specially appointed commission almost two years ago, and the results given to the South African Government have studied this bill that may soon be passed.
