Gambling Boom Continues Despite Recent Legislation

Over the last several years, the internet has seen an enormous boom in gambling related businesses popping up, one after the other. The online poker and gambling industry had been a significantly profitable venue up until the United States government passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA). However, despite analytical predictions and theorized market projections, the industry continues to swell.

Perhaps it is because all of the attention the gambling industry has received of late that highly successful companies are choosing to venture into the online gaming arena - even companies distributing services completely unrelated to gambling.

For instance, the European branch of America Online, AOL UK, has recently announced their decision to delve into the Internet gambling business by partnering with Jaxx UK, a subsidiary of German betting company, FLUXX AG. Believing the British market to be essentially untapped, these two companies expect to take full advantage of the attractive possibilities in the region.

While so many of the "little guys" are suffering acquisition from bigger companies, or being forced to close their virtual doors altogether, any company with the cash flow to invest in such an endeavor may still realize a profitable endeavor on the horizon.
