Copenhagen will soon be hosting the fifth Homeless World Cup, scheduled for August 4, 2007, to benefit homeless across the globe. The seven day event will bring 500 homeless from 48 nations to participate in a football tournament.

Online poker room PartyBets.com has stepped up to contribute to this worthy cause, taking bets on the competitors from their members. Any proceeds made from these wagers will go directly to the foundation.

Teams from as far as Brazil, Canada, Kazakhstan and Uganda will converge on the Danish Capitol for this memorable event. The last Homeless World Cup was held in Cape Town, South Africa and won by Russia, who has been granted the highest odds of winning at 7 to 1. Poland is listed as second most likely with odds of 10 to 1, England next at 15 to 1.

A spokesperson for PartyBets said, "We're delighted to be involved in such a worthwhile project. Research from the 2006 event showed that 73 percent of the players involved actually changed their lives for the better after participating."

The spokesperson went on to encourage members of PartyBets, "Any profits made from the market will be donated to the charity, so we are really hoping that our users get involved in the fun and back their country."

Eric Cantona, International football great, will be visiting the event tomorrow at a special training clinic to offer tips and encouragement to this year's competitors. Cantona explained his desire to be involved in such an event, "Football unites; it inspires and it energizes individuals, communities and the world. Football and the Homeless World Cup has the power to fire up a person to excel as a human being, to change lives for the better. It is fantastic that football brings this opportunity."

Homeless World Cup founder and president, Mell Young said, "Get into the tournament, support your favorite team through their tears and triumphs, as they all vie to become Homeless World Cup champions. One thing is certain - your money is supporting the tremendous power of sport to change lives, to change the world. All monies raised from PartyBets will go into the grassroots development of the national street soccer projects working with the Homeless World Cup to make football available to people who are currently homeless and excluded all year round."
