Antigua and Barbuda In Front of WTO Again
Antigua's lead attorney Mark Mendel said, "So far, we have been the only ones willing to negotiate, and it takes two to get a deal done. That is what we have always been wanting to happen. Hopefully, they will come around and see that it is the best and right thing to do."
So again this Thursday, Antigua and Barbuda will outline its case before the WTO arbitrators in their ongoing case against the U.S. and ban on online gambling.
At stake is 3.4 billion in trade sanctions that these
nations are seeking against the United States. Officials say that after a three member panel
of arbitrators hears the oral arguments from both sides, a decision could be
coming by November 30th.
Prime Minister Baldwin has indicated a willingness to negotiate and come up
with an agreement both sides could live with but so far Washington has given no
indication it is willing to do the same thing.
Finance and Economy Minister Dr Errol Cort is monitoring the Geneva hearings as
he is traveling to Washington next week for the the International Monetary Fund
/World Bank meetings.
