BArry Greenstein Talks Online Gambling Reform

Oct 28, 2007
Author: Steve Vaughan
In recent political meetings that discussed the Barney Frank bill and the Wexler bill, Barry Greenstein feels they went very well and support that is needed to get atleast one of these bills passed is close to being reached.

The Frank bill in a sense states that people should be allowed the freedom of doing what they want in the comfort of their own home and that includes the ability to play online poker. The Wexler bill would create an exemption for skill games in the UIGEA and that would include online gaming sites.

Greenstein said there were three main points made at the meetings, with #3 holding the most weight at the moment with the politicians.

1. The current bill isn't working and is unenforceable

2. Significant tax revenues are being lost by not regulating online poker and taxing it

3. Multi-billion dollar sanctions are being threatened by the EU for violating WTO rulings as it pertains to online poker

A Congressional hearing is set for November 6,that will be chaired by John Conyers. Barry Greenstein, being a professional poker player, will be testifying, and he fully believes one of these bills will be passed within the next six months.
