Bwin Launches Italian Website
Italian lawmakers recently made it legal for online poker operators to run websites for their citizens. When this law came to pass many online operators saw it as a golden opportunity and quickly created online poker sites in the Italian language. The most recent company to launch and Italian site is bwin.
Bwin launched their Italian version on October 19th less than a week after PokerStars announced they were creating an Italian website. Bwin had just launched a Bulgarian website just two weeks prior. Many are stepping up hoping to capitalize on the poker industry being new to the Italian market.
Bwin executives believe that Italian players will visit and participate on their website. One reason is their new P5 Poker Engine. It is the core system that drives the poker platform and the company believes that it will change the way the game of poker is played and improve the performance of the game. It also can accommodate up to 200,000 users.
The Co-Chief Executive Officer for bwin, Manfred Bodner commented on the P5: "P5 represents a substantial investment and was developed in-house at the B2B Company Ongame Network. We decided to go right to the very heart of our game engine and rethink every line of code - and re-write it if necessary. P5 represents a shift in mentality as much as it represents a shift in technology."
