Casinos and gambling websites have long used stunts and strange items to drum up publicity for themselves, meaning that these gimmicks have become somewhat commonplace. However, once in a while, a casino comes up with an idea that’s so bizarre it can’t be ignored.
Such was the case earlier this month, when OnlineGamblingPal.com purchased a small sample of Michael Jackson’s hair of $10,871. The hair was purchased from an online memorabilia merchant, which took the hair from the Carlyle Hotel in New York City after a stay by the pop star.
Simply having the hair on display somewhere might have attracted a small amount of interest, but the site was looking for a real selling point, so OnlineGamblingPal.com made big plans for the hair – they plan to turn it into an official gambling implement.
“As its proud new owners, we have decided to convert Michael Jackson’s hair into a roulette ball – an appropriately unique way to immortalize a small part of a truly peerless entertainer,” OnlineGamblingPal.com said in a statement about the purchase. “The ball itself will be made to the highest professional standards, ensuring it will be eligible for use at any licensed casino’s roulette table.”
Michael Jackson died in June 2009, due to an overdose of propofol administered by his personal physician. As one of the most successful recording artists of all time, Jackson earned the nickname the King of Pop, and memorabilia from his life has been extremely popular since his death.
