2008 WPT North American Poker Championship Results
Four hundred and fifty four players showed up to compete in the 2008 World Poker Tour North American Poker Championship. The event took place over a six day period with three day-one flight. The event was a $10,000 No limit hold’em challenge with a $1,090,589 first place prize.
The final table held six players. In chip lead order, the players left were: Glen Witmer, Gavin Smith, Ryan Fisler, Marc Karam, Kathy Liebert and James Trenholm. When final table play began the blinds were set at 15,000-30,000 with a 5,000 ante.
It took some time before the first player would be knocked out. James Trenholm had the shortest stack and after going against Smith’s pocket kings, Trenholm was out in sixth place. Karam would be out next when he went all in with pocket queens against Witmer’s ace-king. Witmer got an ace on the flop and won the hand sending Karam home in fifth place.
Fisler would be next to go, finishing in fourth while Kathy would be next, in third place. That left only Glen Witmer and Gavin Smith to begin heads-up play. Witmer held a substantial lead with over 9 million in chips to Smith’s almost 4 million.
During play, Smith managed to gain around a million chips but Witmer’s lead just could not be broken. Smith eventually moved all in with pocket fives and Witmer called with Ace –King. Witmer found his ace on the river and won the tournament and just over a million dollars.
