The Canadian Poker Tour will be hosting the Canadian Open Poker Championship beginning today in Calgary, Alberta. The event will take place at the Stampede Casino and will consist of the Main Event with a $5,000 buy-in. The competition will be a heads-up tournament.

Players will compete in the best two out of three matches and each player will begin with 10,000 chips. Blinds will increase every twenty minutes with one hundred and twenty eight players competing. Several poker pros will be competing including those from Canada. Gavin Smith, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth are scheduled to compete during the tournament.

Last year’s event saw only sixty four players competing and Huck Seed and Brad Booth fought it out in heads up play. Seed was able to take the win and earn the just over $100,000 pay day. It will be interesting to see if a poker pro will be winning this year’s competition or if a new player will emerge the victor.

Schedule for Tournament:

Thursday May 14th Day 1
Friday May 15th Day 2
Saturday May 16th Day 3
Sunday May 17th Final Day
