In a bid to provide more live tournament opportunities to American players who are having trouble playing online poker, Card Player Magazine has partnered with a number of Native American tribes to form the Native American Casino Poker Tour.
This tour is set to start in December, with a variety of different event planned at the first stop: Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Oklahoma. The first Main Event will take place on December 10; the $1,000 tournament will not only give the winner a substantial prize, but also a guaranteed cover picture on Card Player Magazine and a free $1,600 seat in the January World Series of Poker Circuit event that will be held at the same casino.
The tour could also allow some up-and-coming players gain additional exposure. Each Main Event final table will be streamed live at CardPlayer.com.
Card Player president Jeff Shulman said that the tour was a natural partnership between the magazine and a prominent casino group.
“Our vision is to combine the efforts of Native American poker rooms with Card Player’s massive poker audience, for a nationwide tour,” Shulman said. “With the help of Card Player’s poker and media expertise, the Native American Casino Poker Tour will foster closer relationships between the casinos and their players.”
Earlier events at the Choctaw stop will feature buy-ins ranging from $125 to $300, with a mix of both Hold’em and Omaha featured. Any player 18 or older is permitted to play in the tournament.
Card Player expects to announce further stops on the Native American Casino Poker Tour in the near future.
