Day 4 of the European Poker Tour London saw the remaining field of 62 cut down to 24, and ended with a virtual unknown in the poker world taking the lead. Sweden’s Mattias Bergstrom finished the day with over 1.8 million chips, just ten thousand ahead of his closest competitor.
Nearly two-thirds of the remaining field was cut out on Day 4, including such illustrious names as Humberto Brenes and Marvin Rettenmaier. James Mitchell, who entered the day at the head of the tournament – and as one of 16 players from the UK remaining in contention for the title – help on to a strong position, finishing the day in 6th place. Overall, though, it was a tough day for the home team, as only four other UK players survived to Day 5. That group includes Martins Adeniya, who finds himself in 9th place, along with Ben Jenkins and Fowzi Baroukh, both of whom are on short stacks.
Three Americans also made it through to Day 5. Jeremy Kottler is in the best position of the three, as he currently sits in 4th place in the chip standings. Kevin Iacofano is in 8th place, while Steven O’Dwyer – coming off of his win in the first ever EPL Pro-Am event – is in 15th place with a below average stack.
The remaining players are all guaranteed to win a minimum of £16,000. On Day 5, the field will play down to the final table of eight players, with each player making it that far taking home at least £65,000. The players are ultimately competing for the grand prize of £750,000 for first place.
