PartyPoker Women
The second annual PartyPoker Women’s World Open begins tomorrow and will continue until October 6th, 2008. The event will have thirty six women competing for a piece of the $108,000 prize pool. The tournament will take place in London and eventually broadcast in the United Kingdom.
Players have to produce a buy-in of $3000 and the winner will take home $50,000. Bev Pace, last year’s champion, will be returning to try and maintain the title. Bev is the wife of poker player Norman Pace. She beat Jen Mason for the title last year.
Jen Mason is expected to be back this year as well. Other expected to attend are: Maria Demetriou, Xuyen Pham, Pippa Flanders, Jackie Meecham, Katharine Hartree, Lucy Porter, Michelle Orpe, Shelley Rubenstein, Christine Klecz and Stefanie Bergener.
A spokesman for PartyPoker stated: “Last year’s champion Bev Pace is hotly tipped to run well again this year. Most pundits are also pointing to Jen Mason and Maria Demetriou as ones
to watch.”
“The PartyPoker Women’s World Open was a big hit last year and we’re delighted to see it coming back for its second year. It is one of the most popular events in the eyes of international broadcasters,” stated Eddie Hearn, Head of Online Gaming at Matchroom Sport.
Most of the ladies returning made it pretty far in last year’s tournament and it will be interesting to see if the standings will change from last year or it someone new will be able to prevail.
