Phil Ivey Wins LA Poker Classic
Well it's finally over, 665 hopeful poker players showed up at the Commerce Casino six days ago to try and win the title, World Poker Tour L.A. Poker Classic Champion and Phil Ivey was the man that took it home. Phil Ivey was one of the players hoping to take home the WPT title for the first time, e has been at the final table seven times but hadn't made first.
Ivey started out the day as the chip leader with a nice little cushion of $1.5 million over his closest competitor. It wasn't an easy win since Ivey had to take down Nam Le who had the short stack and Phil Hellmuth who was in third.
Phil Hellmuth is Ivey's good luck charm, according to him when their both at the same final table Ivey takes it home. "But I was glad he busted out early" Ivey said. Hellmuth was the first to leave the table in sixth place when he went all in with a pair and Nam Le had two pair, Le also took out Steve Montgomery in fifth place.
It had looked as if Le was going to take his second WPT title when he went all in with pocket aces and was called by Ivey, who only had pocket 3's but Phil caught another 3 on the turn to take Nam out who ended in 4th place. With the next hand Charles "Woody" Moore was sent home in third place.
This made Ivey heads up against Quinn Do, with Ivey sitting with a 4 to 1 chip lead. After two hands came their final hand Phil went all in with the board showing A86A, after considering the move for minutes Quinn called showing 98 for to pairs. Phil was holding A8 to make a full house and that was all folks, this tournament was done with Ivey the winner.
