Phoenix Sun
On January 30th Shawn Marion, of the NBA's Phoenix Sun's will be hosting a charity poker tournament titled Hearts & Helmets. The event will have regular people as well as NBA stars from the Phoenix Suns and the San Antonio Spurs. Other sports stars will be on hand as well, such as: World Series MVP Jermaine Dye and Olympic decathlon gold medalist Dan O'Brien.
People will be able to play in the tournament against the super stars or just meet them in person. The event will take place at 4:30pm and continue until 1:30am. There will also be a live auction and silent auction to help raise money as well. Sports memorabilia as well as other high dollar prizes will be up for bid.
A ticket for the event is $1,000 per person with the proceeds begin spread over several charities. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Fournier Center for Empowerment, Brad Pitt's Global Green USA Project for rebuilding New Orleans, ICAN International Cancer Advocacy Network, Junior Achievement, Free Arts of Arizona, Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation, Suns Nite Hoops, the Jerome Bettis: Bus Stops Here Foundation and many more charities as well.
In an article on the event by Arizona Republic, Jeff Geller an organizer of the event commented on the public getting to rub elbows with the stars.
