Poker Stars World Championship of Online Poker

The Poker Stars World Championship of Online Poker will begin in little over a week and players are already gearing up for the series. The series is going to kick off on September 5th with a $215 buyin six handed No Limit Texas Hold'em tournament that will begin at 1:30 pm. The prize pool for this event guaranteed to be at least $1 million dollars.

This is just one event of many that will have guaranteed prize pools of $1 million dollars or higher.  Poker Stars has also added 10 new events to this year's lineup.  High Roller events are one new addition to the World Championship of Online Poker.  There is a $25,000 dollar buyin High Roller Heads Up event and the High Roller $10,300 buyin No Limit Texas Hold'em event.

The Main Event of the Poker Stars World Championship of Online Poker is a No Limit Texas Hold'em tournament that will start on September 21st at 4:30pm and run for two days.  Online players will have to pay the $5,200 buyin for a chance at the $10 million dollar guaranteed prize pool.

Poker has been growing in popularity at a steady buy large pace for the last few years across the world.  So for example if more and more people move into a city it will need to be expanded to accommodate all of them and it's the same thing with poker.

Events that are both land based and online are getting larger and larger every year so they can accommodate the larger number of players that show up each year.  In 2007 there were 23 events in the Poker Stars World Championship of Online Poker but this year they have added 10 more events to make a total of 33.

Another great thing about the growth of poker is that with more players you get bigger prizes.  Last year's main event only had a $5 million dollar guaranteed prize pool and this year it's been doubled to $10 million dollars.  The bad side is there is more competition for those bigger prizes.
