The World Poker Tour has announced the latest addition to their schedule: their first ever stop in Ireland. In January 2012, The WPT will hold the first ever WPT Dublin event, featuring a Main Event with a €2,500 buy-in.
The agreement between the organizers of the event and the WPT will last for at least three years. The Main Event will take place in the City West Hotel.
Previously, the biggest event on the Irish poker calendar had been the Irish Poker Championship, traditionally held in Galway. That event, which features a €750 buy-in, will now be a part of the WPT festivities each year.
Sponsoring the tour stop will be online poker site PKR.com.
“We are delighted to partner with the World Poker Tour to bring an event to Ireland for the very first time,” said PKR marketing director Simon Prodger. “Dublin will be a fantastic tour stop and we think the combination of high quality poker and the Irish spirit of fun will draw players from all over the world.”
The World Poker Tour is currently in the midst of its 10th season. The next scheduled event is the Legends of Poker tournament at the end of August, which will take place at the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California. Other events scheduled for later in the season include tournaments taking place in Paris, Atlantic City, Malta, Foxwoods, Prague and Las Vegas. The World Poker Tour now also runs a series of regional and national events, which feature WPT branding but do not count as a part of the main tour, and which offer lower buy-ins.
