Winstar World Casino $3M Tourney Results
This past Sunday, the Winstar World Casino in Oklahoma hosted the River Poker Championship. The event had 1,450 participants, all vying for the $3 million in guaranteed prize money. At the end of the poker tournament 144 players finished in the money and the first place winner took home $700,000 and a $20,000 bracelet.
Of the thousand plus players entered in the tournament, only Jim Carroll of Texas and poker professional Young Cho were left to duke it out for first place. With both almost even in chips it would be some time before a winner would be named. Carroll eventually ended up with more chips than Cho and won the final hand with a top pair when Cho went all in on a bluff.
Carroll was quoted as saying: “I knew I could win it! The staff was great, the tournament was well run and it all gave me a good feeling.” Carroll also said that he knows Cho is a better player but he felt good about his final hand.
Several big names in poker were in attendance including T.J. Cloutier, Kido Pham and Bruce Van Horn. Greg Raymer and Annie Duke were the commentators for the event. A series of satellites and mega satellites also took place during the River Poker Championship and those will be televised in Oklahoma and the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
