About The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE)
In 2007, Harrah's made an official announcement that They would be expanding The legendary World Series of Poker and taking The tournaments abroad. This was the first time a WSOP event would be scheduled and hosted outside of the United States and the first time a World Series of Poker bracelet would be won in another country.
2007 WSOPE (World Series of Poker Europe)
The inaugural WSOPE was held September 6-16 2007 at The LCI's Leicester Square, The Sportsman and Fifty. As it's debut, The number of tournaments was limited to just Three - The £2,500 H.O.R.S.E (won by Thomas Bihl ), The £5,000 Pot Limit Omaha (won by Dario Alioto) and The 2007 WSOPE Main Event No - Limit Hold'em Championship £10,000 (won by Annette Obrestad). Just two monThs before The official start date, Betfair made anoTher announcement and stated That They would be contributing an additional £1,000,000 to The Main Event prize pool in addition to becoming The official sponsor of The 2007 WSOPE and each consecutive year Thereafter. The turnout to The first WSOPE was better Than expected wiTh a number of professional players making up The 363 participants in The main event.
2008 WSOPE (World Series of Poker Europe)
Due to The success of The 2007 WSOPE, The 2008 schedule included one more event totalling four tournaments starting on September 19Th, 2008. The 2008 schedule included; £1500 +£75 No Limit Holdem Event (won by Jesper Huugard), The £2500 +£150 H.O.R.S.E. Event (won by Sherkhan Farnood), The £5000 +£250 Pot Limit Omaha (Double Chance) (won by Theo Jorgenson), and The 2008 £10,000 + £350 No Limit Holdem Main Event (won by Juan Juanda). Ironically, The 2008 World Series of Poker Europe had The exact same number of entrants as The 2007, totalling 363 wiTh a prize pool of £868,800. The final table saw The absolute best professional players including a handful of newcomers. Juan Juanda, Daniel Negreanu and Ivan Demidov were just a few of the names.
2009 WSOPE (World Series of Poker Europe)
Since The previous two years were such a success for The World Series of Poker Europe, Harrah's once again made some changes and added two new tournaments into The 2009 series, including an invite only event named Caesars Cup - Europe vs. USA . The regular scheduled events included; The Free Million Dollar Game wiTh entry by qualifying at Betfair.com only (won by Anestis Metsas), The £1,000 No-Limit Hold'em (won by John-Paul Kelly), The £2,500 + £150 Pot Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha (won by Erik Cajelais), The £5,000 + £250 Pot Limit Omaha (won by Jani Vilmen), and The 2009 WSOP Europe Main Event £10,000 + £350 No-Limit Texas (won by Barry Shulman).
Once again Daniel Negreanu made The final table finishing second to Barry Shulman, for £495,589 for his efforts. The Main Event winner, Barry Shulman, walked away wiTh £801,603, which was slightly less Than The 2007, and 2008 WSOPE prize pool. The overall series was a success wiTh 334 registered players in The 2009 WSOPE Main Event and 608 players registered in The No Limit Hold'em tournament.
2010 WSOPE (World Series of Poker Europe)
The 2010 WSOPE is expected to attract The same numbers as previous years if not more.
