Australian Court to Hear Betfair
gaming company Betfair , who has recently begun their
proceedings in the High Court of Western Australia
with their case in which they feel they are being
treated unfairly. Betfair feels that there have been
unfair restrictions placed in what affects onine
gambling operators and also that have been placed on
the company's betting operations. This well known
Internet gaming company's Australian operation is
located in Tasmania, where they have laws that places
restrictions on the Western Australian residents who
would like to place bets onto their exchange.
The gaming company has argued in the courts that these
restrictions that are placed on Western Australia
residents that include the prohibition of interstate
gamers to bet on Western Australia horse races show
contradiction with that of item 92 of the
Constitution. In Item 92 of the Constitution, it
states that trade between states should be absolutely
free.
With so much worldwide controversy that is transpiring
during this time with online gaming companies, it will
be quite interesting to see the results of these
proceedings. Many have their eyes peeled to which
direction these proceedings might take and how it
might affect online gambling in Australia for online
operators.
