California Gambling Control Commission Loses Revenue
What has been found by the Court of Appeals is that the Gambling Control Commission is that they allowed the tribes to determine the amount that they owed, instead of the amount that had been deemed by the state, which is a percentage of their net profits.
How this will play out is still up to the courts as a former employee of the California Gambling Control Commission had originally brought the suit as a taxpayer.
This evidence comes at a bad time for Governor Arnold Schwarzengger who had made arguments to the effect that the twenty-eight tribes should invest in more slot machines enabling them to pay more to the state of California. The figures are in the billions that could aid in the states budget problems.
