The Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA) has stalled in the United States House of Representatives, as was recently disclosed by Congressmen Barney Frank.

The IGREA was proposed early this year in an effort to not only overturn the UIGEA but to regulate the online gambling industry as a whole. In his comments released to the press, there is a current mounting pressure to reignite movement coming from outside the United States. He spoke about pressure brought onto the Bush Administration, by the World Trade Organization, combined with numerous claims pouring in regarding compensation on the online gambling ban. This combination may create the need and ability for the legislation to become law in the near future.

After congressional hearings on the IGREA, there is no further action plan at this time. "It is not dead" Frank told reporters. At the moment there are 36 co-sponsors of the bill, however they need 218 to pass this bill through the house to the senate. Should the bill reach that number they will be moving forward the regulation of online gambling and poker rooms.
