Indiana Excise Police took notice of a free poker tournament held at a local bar in Muncie Indiana. One hundred poker players sat hunched over poker tables when excise police arrived on the scene and requested backup from other law enforcement agencies due to the size of the crowd.

Jerry Hodge, owner of the bar said there was no buy-in or other actual gambling at the free bar poker tournament sponsored by the bar. No arrests were made.

These sort of tournaments commonly pay out prizes such as gift certificates for food at the establishments in which they're played, most of the tournaments are part of leagues such as Nationwide Poker. The tournaments are held to bring new business to the bars, often customers come out to socialize and play a game of poker, drink a couple beers, buy dinner, and perhaps even return later in the week.
