Internet Gambling Takes a Trip to Washington

Sep 8, 2007
Author: Sandy Kitchen
This week Washington will see the arrival of people who are representatives of online casino gaming, this trip is planned so they can make their voices heard for not only their companies but also for the millions of Americans that would like to have the choice to gamble online from the comfort of their homes.

This is not an ill-planned trip and they will not go empty handed, in fact they will be using a document found on a government website. The document is a question and answer document concerning the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 and it was found on a House Financial Services site. This while answering questions on what the bill of 2006 includes, it does not make online casinos illegal. What it does make illegal is that it re-enforces a 1969 bill that was a Federal Wire Act to cover sports betting by electronic means.

This Federal Wire Act does not name online casinos who today offer much more than sports betting, it does not cover the games that are available to Internet gamblers today like blackjack and poker, nor any of the many others available.
