Ireland To See Big Changes in 2008 Regarding Gambling

Ireland will soon have their own gaming commission to ensure that upcoming new laws are followed by companies seeking to attain a casino license. Justice Minister Lenihan had announced that he feels there can be compromises made in regards to gambling and that he does not want to ban it altogether.

Ireland Justice Minister Brian Lenihan had said, "While a number of casinos are currently operating in Ireland as private members' clubs, those looking to jump into the business in a big way are still waiting for the Government to show its hand over legislation on the market. He has proposed a report that a new legislation be established to allow casino gambling with of course strict regulations and rigorous tests before an establishment can apply for a license.

The report has the Justice Minister rallying for a considerable amount of money to be paid out for a casino to obtain a license. The downside of this could be the demise of smaller gambling establishments that will have to close their doors. He will move forward with this report after the New Year.

The current Ireland Legislation which stemmed from the 1956 Gaming and Lotteries Act and the 1931 Betting Act is noticeably anachronous. With tremendous growth from land based operations as well as the online gambling phenomenon; Justice Minister Lenihan's proposal comes at a good time.
