Malta and Online Gambling Advertising

Many online gambling site from the U.K. have moved to Malta and more continue to do so avoiding the U.K. Gambling Act which as of September 1, 2007 will go into effect and with it a new law permitting only certain countries to be given permission to advertise. The countries involved must be based within the European Economic Area, of which Malta is a part of; this of course is good news to companies that have recently moved there and the ones that plan to move their operation to Malta.

These online gaming sites, including online poker and online casinos,  will need to get the approval from the Department for Culture and Media in order to advertise. While the online gambling sites in Malta in the U.K. the decisions are already being made what online companies may not be able to advertise. James Purnell DCMS secretary has stated that the regulations on the allowance of online gaming sites advertising will be strict and they will need to meet the all the regulations or they will not be able to advertise.

At the time of his statement, only Alderney and the Isle of Man had been the only ones to qualify under these new standards set by the U.K. Gambling Act.
